A house full of history on its own, Baan Varnnakovida is located almost in a back lane near the Khaosan area could be easily missed. However, missing it would be a shame. This old house is one of the famous places for classic and traditional Thai cuisine reminiscent of the cuisine from the Toyal House. In fact, the house itself which is more than 100 years old belonged to HM King Rama VI and passed down to his present ancestors. The speciality here is Khao Chae which is a unique dish of watered down rice infused with scented candles and served with about six different delicately made condiments. These condiments consists of finely minced pork rolled in egg wrap, pork floss, shrimp paste, minced fish, and chai po is eaten with the rice soaked in scented water and ice. This dish is served mostly only in summer in the Royal household and in those days not available to the general public.
