Panpepato - this small Italian Osteria sits on Charoenkrung road just a 5-minute walk from the Asiatique. The menu is quite extensive, focusing on no-frills, homemade Italian dishes and good wine selections. While this is not a luxury place, they make it quite clear that the taste and quality of food should be as close to the original Italian recipes as possible. The pasta and ingredients are from imported brands. The breads are homemade (which is why their bruschetta are worth a try!). Among the dishes that we tried. The star of the meal was a spaghetti carbonara. They certainly did everything right..the bacon was nice and crispy, the cheese was creamy yet flavorful, the pasta was al dente. Love it! The gnocchi with tomato cream was also pleasantly refreshing... The Spinaci al forno is another of my favourite dish. The taste was spotted-on..and the gooey-stretchy cheese was truly a guilty pleasure! As for pizza, they have a vast choice of toppings on the menu. We had the Pane e Pepe pizza ..putting together spicy salami, Italian sausage, bell pepper and fresh chilli...Perfect for those who like it hot !..(literally..) 😆 For the meat dish we had a beef stew, and the meat was very tender. They also have Australian Angus, both grass-fed and grain-fed, to please steak lovers. Of course, a good meal should end with delicious desserts. While they did quite well with the panna cotta, it was the tiramisu that took all the spotlight. A must- try when you're there... Fancy restaurants by the riverfront in Asiatique are nice if you're in the mood to splurge. But when you want a hearty, authentic homemade Italian meal at a more reasonable price - This place is a really good option. (And you can always go shopping in the Asiatique later!)
